MAYWOOD, Ill. -- Greencastle's Caitlin Gannaway came heart-breakingly close to going to the USATF Junior Olympic Nationals while competing at the regional competition on Sunday. The shot-putter missed by approximately 3/4 inch.

The top three in the competition advance to nationals, and coming into the final throw, Gannaway was in third with a throw of 10.21 meters (33 feet 6 inches). However, in the final round, Angel Goff jumped ahead of Gannaway with a throw of 10.23 meters (33 feet 6 3/4 inches). Caitlin did not improved her throw in the final round.

While she was disappointed after the meet, Gannaway plans to continue training for next season with GHS and hopes to make next year's national meet in Omaha, Neb.
