A Greencastle man wanted by police for his involvement in a 2005 bank robbery has been found dead in a Morgan County cornfield.

John Ryan Wood, 27, was found by a Monrovia man and his son on Sunday lying face down in a cornfield about 300 yards from Wellman Road in Adams Township of Morgan County.

Initial reports indicated he had been dead for only a couple of days, and the Morgan County Sheriff's Department is continuing its investigation.

Wood was wanted on a warrant in Putnam County for the June 10, 2005 robbery of Old National Bank on Indianapolis Road. Wood was identified by Greencastle Police as a subject of interest in that case and criminal charges against him were filed in relation to the crime, but Wood had not been located by police to appear in court.

Greencastle Police Det. Randy Seipel has provided information on Wood to Morgan County authorities in the death investigation.

Morgan County Sheriff's officials said there was no obvious cause of death and that an autopsy will be performed today. Right now they are treating it as a possible homicide.
