Jury trial for Center Point man rescheduled

Thursday, December 7, 2006

The jury trial for a Center Point man charged in connection with the June 4 car accident that killed a Putnam County teen has again been rescheduled.

The attorney for Michael William Knight, 20, has filed another motion of continuance for the pretrial conference originally set for Nov. 20.

This moved the final pretrial conference to next Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Putnam County Courthouse, to be followed by a trial either Jan. 9 or Mar. 20 at 9 a.m.

Knight had been originally scheduled for a jury trial on Oct. 17, but because a motion of continuance that was filed back in September, the trial had been moved to Tuesday, Dec. 5.

Knight was alleged to have been driving the vehicle that crashed west of Cloverdale on County Road 1000 South, near County Road 200 West last June, killing 19-year-old Elizabeth Wehrheim and injuring Keanon Dickison, 19, and Nathan Archer, 24.

The charges against Knight include failing to stop after an accident resulting in death, driving while intoxicated causing death, causing serious bodily injury when driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated endangering a person.

If convicted, Knight could face up to 16 years in prison.
