Harold Ross Gilliatt

Harold Ross Gilliatt, 84, Denton, Texas, formerly of Reelsville, died Tuesday.

Born in Young's Creek, Ind., he was the son of Aaron and Minnie (Ross) Gilliatt.

He married Margaret Stuckman on July 5, 1941. She survives.

He joined the U.S. Navy on July 16, 1940, as a second class seaman and retired on Aug. 31, 1970 as a Chief Warrant Officer, after 30 years of service. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, as well as being on active duty for the Korean War and was stationed in Da Nang during the Vietnam War. He was an active leader in Boy Scouts and various churches.

Survivors include his wife, daughter Linnea Livingston, Orange, Calif.; sons Eric R. Gilliatt, Colorado Springs, Colo., Jan A. Gilliatt, Indianapolis, and Brent H. Gilliatt, Sanger, Texas; brother Donald Gilliatt, Indianapolis, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Brian, in 2004.

Services will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, S. Fifth St., Sanger, Texas. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, where he will receive full military honors.

Visitation is from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Coker Funeral Home, 403 Pecan St., Sanger, Texas.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society and the Boy Scouts of America.
