Shelter's goal to grow fund by $12,000

Tuesday, January 2, 2007

The Putnam County Community Foundation has awarded the A-Way Home Shelter with a $4,000 matching grant to build its endowment by $12,000.

Contributions and gifts made to the A-Way Home Shelter endowment will be matched, $1 from the Community Foundation for every $2 given by the public, from now until Nov. 30, up to a cumulative dollar amount of $12,000.

The A-Way Home Shelter provides a clean, secure living environment and food for people in need. In addition, the shelter provides assistance in locating housing and vital social and health agencies. "The Endowment Builder will mean that A-Way Home will be able to have a guaranteed income each year. This money will be used to provide life-saving services to those in Putnam County who need it most," said Debbie Zigler, A-Way Home Director.

With an endowment at the Community Foundation, contributions are never spent, but are invested and provide a charity with steady funding forever. "The A-Way Home Shelter endowment provides steady sustainable funding from generous donors in the community who believe in providing a safe place for people who are displaced, homeless or victims of domestic violence," said Eric Wolfe, Community Development Director for the Community Foundation. "This matching gift opportunity increases the impact of every contribution to the endowment, which benefits the A-Way Home Shelter now and forever."

Anyone wishing to contribute to the A-Way Home Shelter endowment and having their gifts matched can send gifts and contributions to the Putnam County Community Foundation in care of A-Way Home Shelter Endowment Fund, 2 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, 46135. Gifts other than cash, including realized planned gifts, will also be matched by the community foundation. Call for more information.
