DPU men drop title game in Shootout

TAMPA, Fla. -- Hamilton managed to rally from a five-point deficit in the final two minutes of regulation Saturday to send the game into overtime.

Hamilton then outscored the DePauw University men's basketball team, 18-10, in overtime to defeat the 22nd-ranked Tigers, 85-77, in the Tampa Bay Shootout.

Hamilton led much of the first half and had a 27-22 lead before the Tigers closed out the first half on a 10-0 run to take a 32-27 lead into halftime.

DePauw took its biggest lead of the contest, 56-48, after Brian Oilar's layup with 6:35 remaining, which capped an 8-0 run and the Tigers still had a 65-60 lead.

Hamilton's Jay Simpson closed the game to two with a three-pointer with 1:32 left and then tied the game on a layup with 53 ticks left.

The Tigers were not able to convert on their offensive possession, sending the game into overtime.

In overtime, Hamilton's Harlee Wood opened with a three and the Continentals never trailed, hitting five-of-seven field goals, including all three three-point attempts.

Reid Sakel led the Tigers with 17 points while Matt McDonald added 14.

The Tigers will take on Sewanee on the road Friday.
