Tiger women defeat Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The DePauw University women's basketball team, ranked fifth in the nation, won its 11th straight Friday, knocking off Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Sewanee on the road, 82-51.

The Tigers used a 25-4 run to open the second half en route to the victory.

The victory is DePauw's 18th straight regular season conference win. Sewanee dropped to 4-5 overall with the loss.

Sewanee scored the first five points of the contest, but the Tigers ripped off 11 straight to begin a 19-2 run that gave them the lead for good.

The Tigers led, 41-28, at the break before scoring the first 11 points of the second half to extend the margin to 28.

Five DPU players reached double figures Friday led by Kaleei Lowes, Gretchen Haehl and Meghan Warner with 12 each. Liz Bondi and Emily Marshall each added 10 in the win. Rachel Miller paced Sewanee with 14 while Steffi Renninger had 11.

DePauw shot 58 percent from the floor, including 61 percent in the second half, while Sewanee shot only 27 percent.

DePauw also had a 49-31 edge on the boards as Bondi led the team with nine.

The Tigers (12-1, 2-0) face Oglethorpe on the road Sunday at 3 p.m.
