MOORESVILLE -- Greencastle High School's girls' basketball team can't catch a break.

Just days after earning its first victory of the year, Greencastle suffered a loss to Mooresville on the road Tuesday.

The Tiger Cubs dropped a 67-37 decision to the Pioneers despite keeping the game close in the first period.

The opening quarter ended in an 11-all deadlock, but Mooresville turned up the heat in a big way in the second stanza, outscoring Greencastle, 25-4, behind 17 points from 6-foot-2 Caitlin Dougherty.

Dougherty finished with 22 points, as the Tiger Cubs held her to just five points in the second half, but Mooresville's Megan Calloway, who also stands at 6-2, stepped up and carried the Pioneers the rest of the way, finishing with 16 points.

"We didn't have an answer for their big girls," Greencastle coach Glenn Hile said. "They ran out on us in the second when Dougherty had that big quarter, and we did a better job on her in the second half, but then Megan Calloway stepped up.

"We just didn't do a very good job last night."

Grace Fisher led Greencastle with 19 points, connecting on a pair of three-pointers.

Greencastle fell to 1-13 on the season with the loss while the Pioneers improved to 5-9.

"Mooresville's better than their record," Hile said. "I just hope that (the loss) has no effect on us for Friday (against South Putnam) because we have been playing pretty well."

In junior varsity action, the Tiger cubs suffered a 51-11 loss to Mooresville.

Greencastle will be in action again Friday at home when it faces South Putnam at 6 p.m.
