Special session for school board

Discussing financial information for a renovation project at Greencastle High School is the purpose of a special school board session set for 8 p.m. Thursday at the Miller Education Center.

The Greencastle School Board has already approved the architect firm of Fanning/ Howey for a project to remodel the heating and cooling systems and window replacement at the high school.

Thursday's meeting agenda calls for:

-- Presentation of project finance information.

-- Permission to authorize a 1028/preliminary determination hearing.

-- Formation of a building corporation.

-- Presentation of any additional construction or finance matters relating to the GHS renovation project.

During the January meeting of the Greencastle School Board, the board:

-- Saw a presentation on the 3D program offered at Area 30 Career Center by instructor Jon Tesmer and high school students Joel Bottom, Spencer Miller and J.D. Sims.

The student-produced animation uses the same technology that produced films such as "Shrek" and "Ice Age" by companies such as Pixar, Disney, Universal Studios and EA gaming.

In personnel matters, the board approved:

-- Logan Kuhne as the middle school wrestling coach with Zachery Hesler as assistant coach and James Matthew Harrison as volunteer.

-- David Keller as high school softball coach with Tom Standers as assistant.

-- Troy Remsburg as high school assistant baseball coach.

-- Andrea Sweet as middle school assistant swim coach.

-- A leave of absence for Bob Hedge from Jan. 17-March 30, and a leave of absence for Tonia Dibble from Feb. 26-May 25.

-- Resignations of Elizabeth Davies and Ellie Boyle as high school cafeteria assistants.

In other business, the board approved:

-- A grant of $4,600 from Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation to be used for construction of a pergola in the high school courtyard.

-- A donation of $2,300 from the Deer Meadow PTO for use on classroom expenses.

-- Authorizing the corportation treasurer to prepay bills to avoid late fees.

The Greencastle School Board regularly meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Miller Education Center, 522 Anderson St., Greencastle. The meetings are open to the public.
