DePauw women set for weekend

The 10th-ranked DePauw women's basketball team, coming off two impressive wins, will face two more conference foes this weekend.

The Tigers will welcome the Rhodes College Lynx Friday and look to stop their top scorer Ashley Farrell, who is averaging 20 points a game and pulling down five rebounds.

Ferrell is not the Lynx' only threat. Crystal Jessee and Kristen Lytle average 10 points a contest and combine 10 boards. Jessee also has 21 blocks on the season.

DePauw averages 13 more points a game than Rhodes and has a four-board advantage.

DePauw also holds a slight edge in field goal and three-point percentage but are dead on in free throws, both making 74 percent from the line.

Another aspect working in the Tigers' favor is the Lynx are coming off a three-straight losses to two opponents DePauw has already faced and defeated.

For the Tigers, Liz Bondi continues to lead the way with 15 points and six rebounds a game. Cassie Pruzin is contributing 10 points and five boards.

A pleasant surprise for the Tigers has to be the play from Cailin McGonigal and Kalei Lowes. McGonigal had a monster game for the Tigers Friday and is delivering eight points for DPU. Lowes is playing solid ball, giving the Tigers seven points along with two boards a game.

Suzy Doughty has accumulated 111 assists on the season and is DePauw's all-time leading in assists and steals.

On Sunday, the Tigers will face the Millsaps Majors. Millsaps is averaging 55 points a game while being outscored letting their opponents 68 per contest.

The Majors are averaging just 34 percent from the floor and a woeful 23 percent from the three-point line.

LaReina Adams leads the Majors with 13 points a game while Deborah Sturgis and Crystal Dickerson are averaging 10 per contest.

The Tigers are 5-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference competition this season. Rhodes and Millsaps are a combined 4-10 in the conference. DePauw is locked with Hendrix atop the SCAC standings.
