GHS falls at Brown County

NASHVILLE -- One day after earning a share of the West Central Conference, the Greencastle High School boys' basketball team ran into a wall named Brown County as the Tiger Cubs picked up their ninth loss of the season, falling to the Eagles, 52-44, Saturday.

"I think we were suffering from what we did the night before," GHS coach Troy Greenlee said. "We had spurts of playing well, but we weren't able to get over the hump."

The Tiger Cubs trailed 18-8 after the first quarter and fell behind, 30-19 by halftime.

Greenlcastle made a comeback in the third period, outscoring the Eagles, 18-10, in the period, but Brown County held off GHS with 12 points in the final period. Greencastle managed just seven points in the period.

Brown County is a possible sectional foe for the Tiger Cubs, making Saturday's game all the more important.

"Anytime you play a sectional opponent, you know where you are," Greenlee said. "They had a pretty good big kid inside that we struggled with. They wanted to get the ball into him.

"That kind of presented a problem for us defending inside."

Brennan Burks finished with 27 points to lead the Tiger Cubs while Erick Burgeson had nine.

Wes Fox led the Eagles with 18 points while David Tatham finished with 14.

In junior varsity action, Greencastle lost, 44-42.

The Tiger Cubs (9-9, 5-1) face Northview at home on Feb. 13.

Greenlee said he has mixed feelings regarding not playing for eight days.

"Sometimes, you get a little lull there," he said. "I'd kind of like to play during that time."
