FSS sets $15,000 endowment goal

Monday, February 12, 2007

The Putnam County Community Foundation awarded Family Support Services with a $5,000 matching grant to build an endowment to $15,000. Contributions and gifts made to the Family Support Services endowment will be matched, one dollar from the Community Foundation for every two dollars given by the public through Nov. 30 up to a cumulative dollar amount of $15,000.

Family Support Services provides strength-based and family-centered prevention programs to individuals, who may be caught in the cycle of violence, are at risk of child abuse and neglect, or desire parenting support. Through supportive services, advocacy, education, and guidance, families are provided skills to help them function in a way that is healthy, positive and nurturing. Family Support Services programs include Healthy Families, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention, Tot's Time, Moving Beyond Abuse Compassion Workshop, Support Groups and Community Education.

"We are excited about this opportunity to participate with the Putnam County Community Foundation in a joint endeavor to diversify our efforts and ensure our services to Putnam County families will continue as long as we are needed," said Dr. Pamela Guthrie, Family Support Services Board President.

With an endowment at the Community Foundation, contributions are never spent, but are invested, and provide a charity with stable funding forever. "The Family Support Services endowment provides steady, sustainable funding from generous donors in the community who care about fostering healthy children and families," said Eric Wolfe, Community Development Director for the Community Foundation. "This matching gift opportunity increases the impact of every contribution to their endowment."

Anyone wishing to contribute to the Family Support Services endowment and having gifts matched can send contributions to the Putnam County Community Foun-dation in care of Family Support Services Endowment Fund, 2 S. Jackson St, Greencastle, 46135.

Gifts other than cash, including realized planned gifts, will also be matched by the Community Foundation. Call for more information.
