Snow emergency drops to Level 1
Even though the snow has passed and the roads are finally becoming clear again, the county is still under a snow emergency.
Putnam County Emergency Management Director Kim Hyten informed the BannerGraphic Thurs-day morning that county officials decided to move the county from a Level 2 snow emergency back to a Level 1.
According to County Commis-sioner's Ordinance 1999-2-15, an ordinance concerning travel upon county roads during a declared local emergency, a Level 1 snow emergency means:
Hyten said that most of the gravel roads are still down to one lane, but most of the paved roads are clear for both lanes of travel to be open.
Motorists are still urged to use caution while traveling on all roads.
Hyten also told the BannerGraphic that county officials might lift the Level 1 snow emergency some time Thursday after all county roads have been assessed.
Currently, all county schools are closed for the day, but both the courthouse and its annex are open for business.
