IHSAA draws boys' sectionals

The field is set as the road to Conseco Fieldhouse was drawn Sunday for the Indiana High School Athletic Association boys' basketball tournament.

None of the four Putnam County schools will have to travel far as Greencastle and South Putnam will both host sectionals this season.

Greencastle will host the Class 3A Sectional 29, which will also feature Sullivan, West Vigo, Owen Valley, Brown County and Edgewood.

Greencastle drew the Patriots in the first round of sectional competition. Postseason action is set to begin on Feb. 26 and conclude on March 3.

The Patriots are 14-6 overall this season and 2-2 against common sectional foes, having defeated West Vigo and Brown County but losing to Edgewood and Sullivan.

Greencastle is 1-2 against common sectional opponents this year, having beaten Sullivan, 52-47, on Dec. 9, but losing to Edgewood, 72-50, on Nov. 25, and to Brown County, 52-44, on Feb. 3.

Sullivan (13-8) will face West Vigo (7-15) in the first game of sectional play, followed by the Patriots against the Tiger Cubs.

The winners of the first two games will face each other in the third contest of the sectional, followed by Brown County (10-8) against Edgewood (17-0). The Mustangs are the top-ranked team in Class 3A this year.

Sullivan is 2-4 against common sectional foes this year while West Vigo is 2-3. Brown County is also 2-3 against sectional opponents.

South Putnam will play host to Class 2A's Sectional 45, which will also include Tri-West, North Putnam, Cascade, Cloverdale, Monrovia and South Vermillion.

Tri-West (14-5) will face the Cougars in the first game of the sectional. The Cougars are 9-7 this season.

North Putnam is 3-2 against common sectional opponents, having beated South Putnam, 60-43, on Dec. 1 and Monrovia on Jan. 12, 64-61. The Cougars also beat South Putnam, 53-33, on Feb. 2, but lost to Cascade and Cloverdale.

Cloverdale (13-5) will face Cascade in the second game of the sectional. The Cadets are 12-6 this saeason.

Cloverdale is 5-1 against common sectional opponents, with its only loss coming to Tri-West, 84-67, on Dec. 16.

Monrovia will take on South Vermillion in the third game of the sectional. Monrovia is 6-14 this season while South Vermillion is 7-12.

South Putnam (3-16) drew the bye in the sectional and will face either Tri-West or North Putnam in the semifinals. The Eagles are 1-8 against common sectional foes this season, picking up a 74-65 win over South Vermillion on Feb. 3.

The winners of the second and third game will face each other in the other semifinal game.
