Friday, February 23, 2007

Indianapolis Colts fans get ready. The Vince Lombardi Trophy is on its way to Greencastle March 8.

The public is invited to attend the event at Greencastle High School's McAnally Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where they will have a chance to put their hands on the trophy that was given to the Colts for winning Super Bowl XLI.

"Our Owner, Jim Irsay has stated that the Vince Lombardi Trophy belongs to the fans," said Tom Zupancic, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Colts. "By taking the Vince Lombardi Trophy to 50 cities and towns we are bringing the trophy right to our 12th man in their own backyard."

Fans who attend the free event will also get a chance to have their picture taken with the trophy, talk to Colts' cheerleaders and see "Blue," the Colts' mascot, as well as pick up free items from the Colts. There will be no Colts' players in attendance.

The "World Championship Trophy Tour" kicks off its 50-city tour today from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Meijer store on Southport Road in Indianapolis and tonight from 5-7 p.m. at the H.H. Gregg store in Avon.

Old National Bank is sponsoring the tour and will be giving away "I Touched the Trophy" buttons during the event as well.

Old National CEO and President Bob Jones was the first to touch the trophy, according to a press release from the bank on Friday.

Lori Danielson, chief marketing officer with Old National, said "Old National is a proud sponsor of Indiana's team. Throughout the 2006 season, the Colts and Old National Bank helped Indiana's kids win big.

"During the winning season, Old National Bank invested $5 towards each child's Colts Kids Savings Account every time the Colts won. Thousands of Colts Kids Savings Accounts were opened this past year across Old National Bank's footprint of Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky."

Over the course of the tour, the Colts will make stops throughout the state of Indiana, including parts of Illinois and Kentucky.

The Indianapolis Colts, according to a press release, will also partner with the United Way in each of the respective counties by allowing fans to purchase World Championship Trophy Tour photo frames. All proceeds from the photo frames sold will benefit the United Way in the local community.

Colts officials said the times of the tours could change depending on weather and other factors. They encourage fans to keep up to date with all dates at their website: www.colts.com/trophy.

The other sponsors of the event include Sprint, H.H. Gregg and Meijer.
