Garden Show March 23-24 at fairgrounds

The Putnam County Master Gardeners' Association will be hosting its eighth annual Lawn and Garden Show on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Speakers will discuss topical items on interest to the gardener and answer questions in their specialty.

Members of the Master Gardeners' Association will be available at their booth to answer general horticultural, landscaping and gardening questions. They will also give dogwood, persimmon, red pine, red oak and redbud trees to the first 500 families who stoop by their booth.

Special activities will be available to children throughout the event. Greendell's Nurseries from Mooresville will assist in the children's activities.

A schedule:of speakers is as follows:

Friday, March 23 -- Stephanie Ellis from the Lily Society of Indiana President will speak on "Propagation of Lilies" at 1 p.m.

-- Bob Whitmore, owner of Dogwood Hosta Farm, will speak on "Hostas in the Garden" at 2 p.m.

-- Donna Harcourt, instructor of One Stroke Painting, will speak on "Painting Your Summer Flowers" at 3 p.m.

-- Ann Delchambre, agent for the Putnam County Extension office, will speak on "Basic Tree Care" at 4 p.m.

-- Constance Ferry, owner of Hobbit Gardens, will speak on "Hers, Herbs, Herbs" at 6 p.m.

Saturday, March 24 -- Dale Cantonwine, gardener extraordinaire, will speak on "Vegetable Gardening 101" at 10 a.m.

-- Jackie Baumann, consumer educator at the Putnam County Extension office, will speak on "Food Preservation" at 11 a.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own pressure canner to be tested.

-- Karen Smoger, professor at DePauw University, will speak on "How to Out-Garden Your Kids" at 1 p.m.

-- Kathy Stamper, owner of Green Earth Organics, will speak on "Organic Lawn Care" at 2 p.m.

The Senior Center will be providing the food concession on both days. Admission is free.at fairgrounds
