Ground broken for PCP addition

Friday, March 23, 2007

Armed with spades, shovels, hard hats and a lot of enthusiasm, the board of directors of the Putnam County Playhouse gathered recently to break ground for a new addition to the Hazel Day Longden Theater complex.

Also at the event were Rick Smiley of Smiley Heating and Cooling, Bart Spencer of Daniel and Barton Construction, and Drew Brattain of First National Bank of Cloverdale.

Board President Michael McClaine and member Chris Wurster said that nearly $20,000 have been given for the project, with hopes of reaching $30,000. Early supporters include the Putnam County Foundation, Ernie and Linda Ford, Duke Energy, First National Bank and Daniel and Barton Construction.

Donations from every member of the board of directors join those of Karen Temple and Bob Perry, the Rokicki Foundation, John Zeiner, Bob and Vera May Farber, Jim and Emily Poor, Bob and Sharon Evans and Tom Graffis.

The new addition of the south end of the theater will house dressing rooms, makeup areas and an indoor rehearsal space. The small barn now used for dressing rooms will be used for storage of large set and property pieces.

The 2007 season opens in June with the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "Cinderella."
