Charles Robert Kirkpatrick, 87, Wingate, died Friday in Lafayette after a lengthy illness.

Born near Wingate, he was the son of Charles R. and Fronie (Romine) Kirkpatrick.

He attended Newtown Schools and graduated from Jackson Heights School in 1937. He was a 1941 graduate of the Purdue University School of Agriculture, where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, Alpha Zeta agricultural honorary and earned his private pilot's license. he was a grain and livestock farmer in the Wingate and Jackson Heights area. A long-time 4-H leader, he also served on the Fountain County 4-H Council. He was a member of the Jackson Heights United Methodist Church, where he had been a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years, and was a 50-year member of the Shawnee Masonic Lodge and treasurer of the Meharry Cemetery Board.

He married Corrine Hamilton on Feb. 14, 1954 in West Lebanon. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Lee Rippy and husband Howard Jr., Ladoga, and Joan Marie Kirkpatrick, Santa Clara, Calif.; two stepbrothers, Jack Palin and wife Roberta, Roswell, Ga., and Harmon Palin, Weslaco, Texas; two stepsisters, Jean Howard, Newtown, and Susan King and husband Gus, Indianapolis; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Family and Friends Funeral Home, Wingate, with Pastor Bill Scott officiating. Burial will be in Meharry Cemetery, Wingate.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday.
