North golf moves to 6-0

Thorntown -- The North Putnam boys' golf team improved to a perfect 6-0 on the season after winning a three-way match against Southmont and Western Boone.

The Cougars posted a 169, its highest score of the season, but still finished well ahead of second place Western Boone who shot a 196.

Eric Whitaker led the way for North with a 39.

The Cougars will be in action again today as it hosts South Putnam at 4:30 p.m.

GHS tennis wins at South Vermillion

CLINTON --The Greencastle tennis team got past South Vermillion, 3-2, Tuesday night on the road.

Greencastle won both doubles matches and the No. 1 singles match to capture the win.

Kelsey Hennette continued her strong play this season, with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hannah Henry to get the Tiger Cubs going.

Carol LaFoe won the first set in her match against Jenni McLeish, but was unable to sustain her momentum and ended up on the wrong side of things 6-2, 2-6, 2-6. Rena Warren also fought hard but fell to Meghan Benson 6-7, 4-6.

With the Tiger Cubs down 2-1, they needed some big play in doubles. And they were not disappointed.

The No. 1 team of Kayla Birt and Savannah Provine dominated their match against Chelsea Hixon and Lacy Short 6-1, 6-1. With the score tied, it was up to Ashley Watkins and Rachel Jackson to make it happen.

Watkins and Jackson beat Meghan Slavens and Brittany Wright 6-4, 6-4 to deliver the Tiger Cubs the victory.

In junior varsity action, Aubrey Merrell and Jordan Karch posted wins in singles competition. The doubles teams of Kristen Flint, Briana Martin, Bridget Tucker and Brittany Elliot grabbed two wins for the Tiger Cubs.
