Eagles lose to Sparkplugs, 5-2

SPEEDWAY -- Third-ranked Speedway tallied five unanswered runs in the first four innings to put the South Putnam softball team in a deficit it could not overcome. The Eagles fell to the Sparkplugs, 5-2.

With the win, Speedway clinched the West Central Conference title, with a final record of 10-2. The Eagles finished the WCC with a 9-3 record, and fell to 13-6 overall.

The Eagles continued to battle back, coming up with runs in the fifth and seventh innings, but ultimately came up on the short end of the scoreboard.

Missed opportunities did the Eagles in, as they tallied 12 hits on the night, but could not push more runs across the plate.

The Eagles close the regular season with a tournament at Riverton Parke on Saturday.
