Foundation announces Lyon Family Scholars

Four Putnam County citizens have been awarded Lyon Family Scholarships through the Putnam County Community Foundation.

Each scholarship recipient receives up to $10,000 a year for two years to help finance their education. This scholarship is open to any citizen who has a financial need to start/continue/finish their higher education. The scholarships are available through the application process at the Foundation and are awarded each year.

Jacki Secrest is looking forward to finishing her media services certification at Indiana State University. She works in the media center at Cloverdale Middle School, and is a busy wife, mother and college student.

Another ISU Lyon Family Scholarship winner is Christian Pitts. She is working on her certification in elementary education as well as special education. She will soon follow in her parents' footsteps in the teaching profession.

Rose Hulman student Robert Bennett is another scholarship recipient. He has already completed two years at Rose Hulman, majoring in software engineering.

The fourth scholarship winner is Rachel Woodall who recently graduated from Greencastle High School and is looking forward to entering Indiana University focusing on finance.

More than 50 applications for this scholarship were received this year.

The application process for the 2008-09 school year will begin early next year through the Putnam County Community Foun-dation and will be available on its website.

The Putnam County Community Foundation is a nonprofit public charity established in 1985 to administer funds established by donors, award grants, and provide leadership, enriching the quality of life and strengthening community in Putnam County. The Community Foundation administers more than 150 funds for donors, supporting a variety of charitable activities.
