Free and reduced lunches available

The Child-Adult Resource Services, Inc. today announced sponsorship of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and its policy for providing free and reduced-price meals at no separate charge.

Free and reduced-price meals will be provided to participants meeting with the approved eligibility criteria. Meals are available to all enrolled participants without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability at Greencastle Resource Center and Cloverdale Resource Center.

Listed below are the USDA Income Eligibility Guidelines which are effective July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008. To be eligible, income must be at or below the following:

For reduced-priced meals, a household size of two must be at or below $25,327 annually or $2,111 monthly; a household size of three must be at or below $31,765 annually or $2,648 monthly; a household size of four must be at or below $38,203 annually or $3,184 monthly; a household size of five must be at or below $44,641 annually or 3,721 monthly; and a household size of six must be at or below $51,079 annually or $4,257.

For free meals, a household size of two must be at or below $17,797 annually or $1,484 monthly; a household size of three must be at or below $22,321 annually or $1,861; a household size of four must be at or below $26,845 annually or $2,238 monthly; a household size of five must be at or below $31,369 annually or $2,615 monthly; and a household size of six must be at or below $35,893 annually or $2,992 monthly.

Children who are members of TANF assistance units or food stamp households are automatically eligible to receive free meal benefits.

The program, administered by the United State Department of Agriculture and the Indiana Department of Education, Division of School and Community Nutrition Programs gives financial assistance to child care centers so that nutritious meals can be integrated with nonresidential child care services for children.

The goal of the program is to improve the diets of young children and increase the opportunity for children to eat a variety of nutritious foods.
