The annual Afternoon of Jazz and the second annual Community Golf Outing, fundraisers of the Family Youth and Community Development Program, have been set for Labor Day weekend, and all area residents are invited to participate.

The golf outing begins with registration at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at Old Hickory Golf Course on U.S. 231 north of Greencastle.

Tee-time is 8:30 a.m.

Cost is $45 per person, but sponsorships are also available at $125 and $200, including tee sponsorship and tickets to the jazz festival. The fee includes green fees, golf cart and lunch.

All proceeds benefit the FYCDP center, which provides community programs for Greencastle children, families and senior citizens.

Meanwhile, the annual jazz festival is set for 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2 at the FYCDP community center, 605 Crown St.

Musical entertainers include Tad Robinson, Monica Herzig Acoustic Project, Deb Seitz and Kwyjibo.

Tickets are $10 per person for the jazz festival, with student and senior citizens admitted at $8 each. Children age 12 and younger may attend free of charge.

The jazz festival features barbecue chicken and rib dinners, and a silent auction with items donated by professional athletes, gift certificates and art donated by area artists.

Those attending are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating.

The rain location for the jazz festival is DePauw University's Indoor Tennis and Track Center.
