Cougars find lessons in tournament loss

On Saturday, the North Putnam Cougars volleyball team hosted the Early Bird Tournament with teams from Crawfordsville, Attica and Mooresville.

In their opening match, North Putnam lost to Crawfordsville 13-25 and 21-25.

Taylor Alles led the Cougars with three digs, one assist, three solo blocks and six kills, while Kayla Green added three digs, one assist, one solo block and two kills. Kacy Wendling contributed two digs, eight assists, one kill and one service ace and Logan Doyle added four digs and five kills.

In the second match, the Cougars lost to Attica 25-27 and 14-25.

Ashley Doyle recorded 16 digs, with Carlye McGaughey added seven digs, five kills and three service aces. Tippany Tippin contributed two kills.

In the final match, North lost to Mooresville 14-25, 29-27 and 14-16.

Alles had three digs, one assist, one solo block and six kills for the Cougars, while Ashley Doyle had eight digs and one service ace. Logan Doyle added six digs, three kills and one assist.

"We played three very good schools today and this has been an extremely competitive tournament," North Putnam coach Michelle Spencer said. "Crawfordsville has the best overall team with good skills in every position. Attica has the most powerful player. Mooresville has the best defense and blocking.

"I think we showed that we work hard, never give up, and have the talent to play with schools with amazing talent. We plan to learn from this first week and move forward into our season. I see the possibilities for greatness with our team," Spencer added.

North will take the court today against Western Boone at 6 p.m.
