Airport Appreciation Days set Sept. 8-9

The annual Airport Appreciation Days, in conjunction with the Rods-n-Relics Car Show, will be conducted at the Putnam County Airport Sept. 8 and 9.

The event is sponsored by EAA Chapter 1374 and Dixie Chopper Business Center in cooperation with Dixie Chopper Air LLC and Putnam County Aviation Board.

Young people ages 8-17 are invited to take part in a free airplane ride with parental or guardian permission. To take part in these rides, a registration form must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian at the airport, prior to the ride.

Students will fly free and receive an official Young Eagle certificate. Their name will then be entered in the world's largest logbook at EAA Headquarters in Oshkosh, Wisc.

Adults and children under age 8 may also have an airplane ride for a nominal fee. Saturday and Sunday, there will be paid helicopter rides available for all ages.

The Putnam County Rods-n-Relics car show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8. Awards will be given and prizes handed out on various judged categories.

Final Approach Bistro will serve food and drinks in the hangar booth both days. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available on Saturday and continental breakfast and lunch on Sunday.

It was founded in 1953 by a group of people in Milwaukee, Wisc., who were interested in building their own airplanes. Members don't have to be pilots or own an aircraft.
