Cloverdale grabs a five-game win against Union Dugger Monday

DUGGER -- After struggling at the start, the Cloverdale volleyball team pulled out a five-game win against Union Dugger Monday night on the road. The Clovers won 18-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21 and 15-8.

"We really got off to a slow start and struggled the first game," CHS head coach Kathy Moore said. Finally halfway through the second game we started to wake up."

Leading the Clovers in points was Ashley Koosman with 17 points, followed by Kristin McCammon and Maria Skiles with 10 each. Allie Franklin had nine, Kaileigh Sparks had eight and Alesha Evans with five.

Koosman also contributed five aces with McCammon recording three and Sparks had two aces.

In the kill department, McCammon tallied 14, while Koosman had 13. Elizabeth Cheatham had eight kills and Alesha Evans had five, Whitney Bond had four, Jennifer Wiley and two and Skiles had one.

Sparks led the Clovers with a team-high 16 assists, with Skiles adding 14.

Cheatham controlled the net, recording five blocks and five stuffs. Koosman, Evans and Bond all had three blocks and two stuffs.

The Clovers grabbed an impressive win due to the fact that two starting seniors are out because of injury.

"We have two starting seniors out with injuries right now and it really took us a while to make adjustments," Moore said. "Kristen Schroer is out with a broken nose and Erica Lotz is out with a foot injury."

The Clovers will travel to Turkey Run at 6 p.m. today.
