Man airlifted after Owen County crash

A Brazil man not wearing his seatbelt had to be extricated from his sport utility vehicle in a 7:45 p.m. Wednesday accident south of Cloverdale in Owen County.

Cloverdale Fire Chief Kerry Shepherd reported that Chad Harmon was driving a northbound 2006 Equinox when the SUV left the east side of U.S. 231 north of Cataract Road. The vehicle struck several parked vehicles at McHughes Auto Repair, and then struck a utility pole. The pole broke, causing the transformer to fall to the ground.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to free Harmon from the rear of the vehicle, where he ended up.

LifeLine helicopter airlifted Harmon to Indianapolis for medical treatment.

Cloverdale's Rescue 76, Car 1 and Rescue 71 all responded to the scene. Assisting at the scene Cloverdale police and ambulance, fire and sheriff's deputies from Owen County.

U.S. 231 was closed in both directions for about an hour while the accident scene was investigated and cleaned up.
