33rd year for Berry St.

Thirty years ago, residents on West Berry Street in Greencastle held their first flea market.

Little did they know, but it would still be going strong all these years later. On Saturday, Oct. 6, the street will be lined with tents and tables full of exciting items for visitors to peruse.

Over the years, the event has expanded from Jackson Street to Bloomington Street and several residents on the north and south streets off Berry have joined in the event.

There will be several artists set up with their handcrafted wares to sell. Also available will be antiques and collectibles, baked goods, persimmon pulp, pumpkins, gourds and mums and even a house or two.

It's hard to tell what will be there for sale, so be sure to mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 6.

A lot of traditions have carried through the years, including the sale of bean soup and cornbread.

This year, there will be beans and cornbread located at the corner of Berry and Warren streets.

Come early for breakfast because the Boy Scouts will be selling biscuits and sausage gravy, along with coffee to get the day started for visitors, also located at the corner of Berry and Warren streets.

Tables will be available for guests to sit and enjoy their meals.

There will also be many other foods to choose from along the way.

Berry Street is located one block north of Veterans Memorial Highway or less than a mile south of the Putnam County courthouse.

The city has exempted the parking regulations on Berry Street for the festival. Port-a-lets will be placed on Warren Street and in the parking lot of Berry Insurance.
