TGL takes another shot at mtvU award

Greencastle's own aspiring pop rock band, TGL, is in the spotlight of the college-centered cable music channel mtvU. And band members are hoping the third time's the charm for their shot at fame and maybe a little fortune.

The four musicians from Greencastle are among the top 25 bands, picked from thousands, competing for the title of "Best Music on Campus" at mtvU's 2007 Woody Awards.

The five bands that gather the most votes by Sunday afternoon will move on the next round of the contest.

Of those acts, the two most popular will win a trip to the 2007 Woody Awards in New York to compete for a Woody and $5,000 cash and prizes, said TGL's bassist Zach Stewart.

Fans can vote by clicking the mtvU link on the band's MySpace page at www.myspace.com/tglrock or by visiting the contest's Web site at http://www.bestmusiconcampus.com/contests/woodies1.aspx.

The guys should know whether they've made it past the second elimination by Monday afternoon, Stewart said.

The publicity the band would get if they even made it into the final round would be enough to kick start their careers, he added.

TGL has taken second place in the last two mtvU competitions, including a contest for a $1.5 million recording contract, but they're hoping the Wood Award will be lucky number three.

"We're thinking this could be the one," Stewart said.
