Monday, October 29, 2007

The DePauw University women's volleyball team earned a split against visiting Millikin and Mount St. Joseph. The Tigers lost their first match against Millikin but won in the afternoon against Mount St. Joseph.

DePauw senior Sarah Drew sets the ball during game two of DePauw's match with Millikin.

In their match-up with the Big Blue, the Tigers lost the first game 30-28. DPU kept the game close with Adrienne Cobb, Kim Hamer and Erin Cunningham blasting shots into the Big Blue.

Game two would be much of the same for the Tigers. The moment DPU gained an edge, Millikin was quick to regain control.

Emily Smith came up big for DePauw, digging multiple balls and keeping the Tigers in a position to attack. The Big Blue stayed strong and took the game 30-25.

In the third game, the breaks finally started to fall in DePauw's favor.

Cobb continued to rise above the Millikin defense and deliver powerful shots that continued to find the Big Blue's floor.

Smith and Dana Genet displayed a total disregard for their bodies throughout the match, digging shots inches from the floor and keeping the tigers alive. Smith and Genet combined for 46 digs in the match.

DePauw took the game 30-17 and looked ready to press Millikin in the fourth game.

Millikin came out in the fourth game firing on all cylinders and drove the Tigers into a hole their could not recover from. The Big Blue closed out the match, winning the fourth game 30-14.

Things improved for the Tigers in their afternoon contest with Mount St. Joseph. DPU won in three games 30-26, 30-21 and 30-22.

Hamer led the Tigers with 15 kills and Drew collected 38 assists in the contest. Genet served three aces with Smith adding 14 digs.
