Cloverdale Legion hosts Thanksgiving Dinner

Saturday, November 3, 2007

The Cloverdale American Legion Hurst-Collins Post No. 281 is planning a Thanksgiving Day dinner for the residents of Cloverdale and neighboring communities.

Several members of the Legion, Sons-of-Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary have volunteered to take part in and organize this inaugural Thanksgiving Day Dinner. It has been named "Operation Turkey Feast."

It will be held at the American Legion banquet room on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22 from 1-3 p.m. This dinner is free to anyone in the community and the Legion would like to emphasize that is not limited to legion members.

"Our members feel that being a small community, it is important that an organization such as the American Legion ensures that no resident of southern Putnam and northern Owen county should spend this holiday alone," Keith Whitinger, vice commander said. "We have many residents in our community that we hope will benefit from this dinner, whether they live alone and cannot travel to a relatives house, or maybe a family that has been temporarily separated, or just due to economics, it's not in their budget to provide a special dinner for the family.

"We want our neighbors to know that this not to be considered a charity event, but simply to bring our community together, to kick off the holiday season."

The Legion has set aside enough funds to accommodate dinner for 250 guests with a traditional ThanksĀgiving Day dinner.

Anyone who knows someone who could benefit from spending ThanksĀgiving with friends and neighbors is asked to encourage them to attend the dinner.
