Greencastle Fire Dept.

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three runs recently.

On Monday:

* At 11:07 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to Humbert Hall, 208 E. Olive St., for a fire alarm. They found that the alarm malfunctioned and were back on base at 11:23 p.m.

On Tuesday:

* At 9:38 a.m., crews responded to 1216 S. Bloomington St. for a lift assist. They returned at 9:47 a.m.

* At 10:01 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to 608 Tennessee St. for a fire alarm. They were disregarded and returned at 10:05 a.m.

Sheriff's Dept.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department investigated several collisions recently:

* At 2 p.m. on Thursday, Chief Deputy Virgil Lanning responded to a single vehicle collision with a bridge guardrail on County Road 275 South near the intersection of County Road 500.

Colt D. Allen, 19, Clayton, told Lanning that he was attempting to cross the bridge at 3 a.m. when his vehicle slid on gravel. The bumper of his 1998 Ford Ranger hit the bridge rail and fell off. Allen advised that he went home to sleep before calling dispatch about the accident. Total damage to the vehicle and Bridge 278 is estimated at $750 - $1000.

* At 3:46 p.m. Wednesday, Deputy Ronnie Campbell responded to a collision on U.S. 231 near the intersection of County Road 100 East. Robert O. Quackenbush, 64, Rockville told the investigator that he was behind a vehicle that slowed to turn into a driveway. When he applied the breaks in his 1991 Ford Aerostar, they locked and he was unable to avoid striking a 1999 Oldsmobile that was parked at the side of the road. The parked vehicle is owned by Jeffrey Kieger. Total damage was estimated at $2,50 to $5,000.

* At 8:01 p.m. on Monday, Deputy Campbell responded to a single vehicle collision on County Road 600 South near Belle Union.

Jaclyn F. Tenney, 22, Coatsville, said she lost control of her 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix when she swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle that was driving in her lane. Total damage is estimated at $2,50 to $5,000.

* At 1:20 p.m. on Monday, Lt. Danny Wallace responded to collision on U.S. 231 near the intersection of County Road 25 North.

Doris M. Callender, 90, Greencastle, driving a 2001 Chevrolet Impala, said she did not see the dump truck driven by Janice, L. Tolan, 52, Brazil, in the right lane as she attempted to pass. Callender struck the dump truck, hitting the tires, causing $2,500 to $5,000 in damage.

* At 8:56 p.m. on Tuesday, William A. Finchum, 39, Clayton, struck a deer on U.S. 40 near the intersection of County Road 825 East. Finchum told Deputy Mike Downing,that the deer ran into his lane of traffic and he was unable to avoid striking the deer with his 1999 Plymouth Breeze. Damage was estimated at $2,500 to $5,000.

* At approximately 8 p.m. Nov. 19, Andrew S. Zipoff, 22, Camby, Ind., was involved in a single car collision on Interstate 70 near the intersection with U.S. 231. Zipoff told Deputy Downing that his 2002 Ford Mustang hydroplaned after crossing the bridge over U.S. 231, slipped through the grass median hitting the guardrail on the westbound lane. Damage was estimated at $2,50 to $5,000.

* At 11:14 p.m. Nov. 21, Deputy Downing responded to a collision on U.S. 36 just East of Bainbridge. Nicholas E. Adams, 18, Westfield, told the investigating officer that he lost control of his 1997 Honda ran off the road and landed in a deep ditch on the north side of U.S. 36. Medics and the Floyd Township Fire Department were dispatched to assist on the scene, though no injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $2,50 to $5,000.

* At 12:27 p.m. on Nov. 21, Lt. Wallace was dispatched to investigate a collision involving Constance Ferry, 53, Fillmore, on County Road 75 South. Ferry told the investigating officer that she was approaching a curve when the back end of her 1995 Ford Aerostar slid and, causing her to strike a tree. Damage was estimated at $2,50 to $5,000.
