Mona Maxine Hobbs Gough

Mona Maxine Hobbs Gough, 89, Greencastle, died Thursday evening at her residence.

Born in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of Roy and Edith Mae (Barker) Hobbs.

She was a 1936 graduate of Crawfordsville High School.

She married John Willard Gough on July 2, 1938 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1976.

Gough was a homemaker and assisted her husband as office manager in their Sinclair Petroleum business. She was also employed with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Statistical Reporting service. She had also worked and managed the Lucia's and Betsy Ross fabric stores. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Greencastle, having served as a Sunday school teacher, CWF member, and junior department activities director for several years; was a group leader with the Girl Scouts; a den mother for the Boy Scouts; an original member and stockholder in the Windy Hill Country Club where she served as a swim coach; a board member of the Friends of Putnam County (Ferncliff); and historian of Putnam County involved in historical and genealogical research.

Survivors are three children, Gregg Allan Gough and wife Marguerite, Lovett, Melissa Jane Gough, Greencastle, and John Michael Gough and wife Laura, Plymouth, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband. Daughter Constance Ann Gough, brothers R. Eugene Walden, Oscar Donald Walden, Vernon Lodell Walden and Robert Merle Walden, and sisters Vivian Louise Walden and Betty Darlene Walden.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Roachdale Cemetery with burial to follow. Bittles and Hurt Funeral are handling arrangements.
