DePauw women win SCAC opener

DANVILLE, Ky. -- Cassie Pruzin and Jenna Fernandez each notched career highs with 23 and 21 points, respectively, and led eighth-ranked DePauw women's basketball to an 80-55 win at Centre in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams. DePauw improved to 4-1 overall, while the Colonels dropped to 2-3.

An 8-0 run midway through the first half pushed the Tigers' lead to 20-8 on the way to a 40-21 halftime advantage. DePauw put the game away early in the second half after opening with an 11-0 run.

Pruzin was held scoreless over the first 13 minutes of the contest, but scored 12 over the last seven minutes of the first half on the way to her career-high 23. Fernandez scored the Tigers' first 10 of the game on the way to her 21. Gretchen Haehl added 10 on 4-of-4 shooting from the floor including a pair of threes and added a game-high five assists.

Chelsea Goodman paced Centre with 16 points, while Alison Denbow grabbed nine rebounds. Goodman and Angela Tronzo each had three assists and Denbow recorded three steals.

DePauw shot 49.1 percent for the game and knocked down 6-of-11 three-pointers, while Centre connected on 38.9 percent from the floor including just 32.1 percent in the first half.

The Tigers host Augustana on Wednesday, December 5, at 7 p.m.
