Cougar wrestlers in action

MONROVIA -- North Putnam wrestling went 2-3 as a team Saturday at the Monrovia Invitational, defeating Speedway, 40-30, and the host Bulldogs, 45-36.

The Cougars opened the day with a 47-15 loss to Cascade. Tyler Ruble and B.J. Brewer won by pin. Keegan Foltz took an 8-2 decision.

North defeated Speedway with wins from eight different wrestlers. Bren Donaldson, Madison McClellan, Brewer, Jim Davis and Josh Keyt all won with pins. Ruble won 8-6, Andrew Schwarz won 9-0 and Foltz took his match 7-5.

In their match against Monrovia, the Cougars also had eight winners. Alex Lance, Davis and Keyt all won by pin, while five others won by forfeit.

The Cougars then fell to Brown County 39-33. Brewer and Davis had pins. McClellan took a 17-12 decision. Three Cougars took their matches with forfeits.

In their finale, North fell to county rival South Putnam 37-24. Brewer got his fourth pin of the day in the first period. Three others won by forfeit.

South Putnam results were unavailable at press time.

Brewer had the best day for the Cougars, going 5-0. The effort moved his season record to 13-1.

Ruble's 4-1 mark moves him to 11-3, while Davis' 3-2 day raises his record to 11-3.

Lance, McClellan and Schwarz were all 3-2 on Saturday.

North Putnam hosts Crawfordsville at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

On Thursday, North Putnam wrestling went 1-2 in a four-way meet with Plainfield, Speedway and Danville Thursday night. The Cougars defeated the Sparkplugs, 42-32, while falling to the Quakers, 57-21, and Warriors, 39-30.

Brewer led the Cougars, going 3-0 with three pins.

Ruble, Davis, Schwarz and Keyt each went 2-1. Jacob Smith, Brock Daley, Foltz, McClellan and Jerry Cox each picked up one win for the Cougars.
