Alfred Cox, 83, Brazil, died Thursday at Cloverleaf Health Care.

Born in Harmony, he was the son of Eugene and Violet (Craig) Cox .

Following his return home from the military he worked in Terre Haute for Ordinance Depot Company. He later began working for Lone Star Industries in Greencastle, and also owned and operated the Standard Oil Gas Station on Depot Street. After selling the gas station, he began working for Western Auto in Brazil.

He served as a volunteer firefighter for the Van Buren Fire Department. He was a past member of the American Legion and was currently a member of the VFW. He was awarded the 25-year pin from Lone Star for his years of service.

Survivors include his children Judy Jordan and husband Gary, Robert Eugene Cox, Raymond Russell Cox and wife Debbie, all of Brazil, John William Cox and wife Kathy, Green-castle, sister Dorothy Mosher, Kansas; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lillie Irene (Mosher) Cox, daughter

Linda Sue Zettler, a grandson, and sister Norma Jean West.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at French Funeral Home, Brazil, with Richard Pippin officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery with military services.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral.
