Clinton Shirley Asher

Clinton Shirley Asher, 85, Russellville, died late Wednesday afternoon at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born at home in Boone County, he was the son of Harvey Clinton and Edna May Rubeck Asher.

While living in Putnam County he was a farmer and a truck driver for 30 years. He also drove a school bus at Russellville School and retired in 1977. He then moved to Parke County where he bought a service station in Hollandsburg. Retiring from there in 1983, he moved to Russellville where he opened an ice business at his home.

He served in WW11 with the 739th AAA Gun Bn. from January 1943 to December 1945.

He was a member of Russellville Community Church, lifetime member of V.F.W. in Rockville and Crawfordsville American Legion. He graduated from Roachdale High School in 1942.

On Nov. 30, 1947 he married Phyllis Jean Wingate at Thorntown. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons Richard Asher and wife Roberta, Indianapolis, and Fredrick Asher and wife Miriam, Hollandsburg; two daughters, Shirley Rose and husband Richard, and Sandra Belcher and friend Melvin Owens, Rockville; three sisters, Violet Fairfield, Miami, Fla., Helen Humphreys, Plainfield, Patricia Rose Davis, New Castle; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Virgil Asher, two sisters Pina Wingate and Annabelle Asher.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Machledt and Servies Funeral Home, Waveland, with Pastor Ken Fitzsimmons officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Poland

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
