GHS has five No. 1 seeds at swim sectional

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The seed times for Thursday's Crawfordsville boys' swim sectional were released earlier this week, and Greencastle leads the way with five of the 12 No. 1 seeds.

North Montgomery is next with three top seeds. Southmont is next with two. Seeger and the host Athenians each have a single top seed.

Highlighting the top seeds for Greencastle are its three No. 1 seeds in the relays. The 200 medley relay team has a time of 1:45.04, more than a four-second advantage over second-place Crawfordsville.

For the 200 free relay team, the gap is more narrow, with a 1:35.64 giving them about a one-and-a-half second advantage over Western Boone.

In the 400 free relay, it is tighter still. The seed time of 3:37.30 is just .43 seconds ahead of Southmont.

Two individuals also have top seeds for the Tiger Cubs. Junior Luke Crimmins' 57.08 in the 100 backstroke makes him the favorite entering Thursday's action.

Sophomore Ryan Payne has a 1:07.62 in the 100 breaststroke for the top seed.

Leading the way for North Putnam, two individuals and one relay have fifth seeds.

Freshman Jeremy Ban is seeded fifth in the 200 freestyle, while senior Patrick Byrd has the No. 5 spot in the 100 butterfly.

The Cougars' 200 free relay team is also a fifth seed.

For South Putnam, a pair of sixth seeds lead the way.

Junior Chris Smiley has the sixth seed in the 50 freestyle, just ahead of fellow Eagle junior Clark Becker, who has the seventh seed.

The Eagles' 400 free relay team is a sixth seed as well.

The Crawfordsville Sectional preliminaries will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. On Saturday, diving prelims begin at 9 a.m. with consolation and championship finals for all events beginning at 1 p.m.
