Tad Christy, Drew's uncle, opens the concert

Crowds packed into the South Putnam gymnasium?Sunday evening to show their support and raise money for former student Drew Christy who is showing improvement following a car accident several weeks ago.

More than $18,000, and counting, was raised through Sunday's benefit concert sponsored by members of New Providence Baptist Church.

"Drew is a really super young man. I don't know many 20 year-olds who would take the time to talk to a 14 year-old and even play some Christian music with him, but Drew did," church member Jack Gibson said.

At last report, therapists were moving Drew's muscles in hopes that it will encourage him to move on his own.

His family reported that Drew has been taken off the ventilator.

More than 1,685 messages have been left for the family on a website that allows his family to keep a journal and chart his progress The website is www.caringbridge.org/visit/drewchristy.

  • The support and love shown at the concert was overwhelming. I know the live feed the Christy's were getting was a lifting experience for them and i am happy to know for this night they had a reason to be smiling. We love you and continue to pray for the grace God has to offer Drew.
