Commissioners interview for Child Protection Board member

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Putnam County Commissioners Gene Beck, Kristina Warren and James Baird interviewed two candidates interested in serving on the Child Protection Board. Heather Williams and Detective Deanna Jones both explained to board members what their interests were for being on the board and what they offered in serving on the board.

The position has been empty for approximately a year following Bainbridge Marshal Rodney Fenwick's resignation. The council is considering who to appoint and will notify candidates when a decision is made.

* Bids were accepted from four companies for the purchase of a new dump truck for the highway department. Companies bids are Brickyard, Inc., Terre Haute $94,425.10; Wears International, Indianapolis $103,574; Terre Haute Truck Center, $90,500; and Truck City of Gary, $80,963. Bids were tabled for review until the next meeting.

* The board reviewed costs presented by 911 Director Dave Costin for technical equipment for the new emergency center. Bids were taken under consideration.

* Sheriff Mark Frisbee presented a request to purchase two new cars and to lease two. He gave the board pricing on the vehicles and explained they were looking at Dodge Chargers rather than Crown Vics they currently use. Bids were taken under advisement.

* Commissioners also discussed a new prescription drug program offered by the National Association of Counties to underinsured and uninsured people. The program is free and appears to save 22.2 percent for prescription drugs.

* The board placed the program on the agenda for their next meeting, which will be April 17 at 6 p.m. at the County Annex Building.
