Walton announces run for commissioner

Don Walton has announced his candidacy for the office of third District County Commissioner on the Republican ticket in the May Primary election.

Walton is a life-long resident of Putnam County. He graduated from Belle Union High School and served in the U.S. Army. He became a self-employed bricklayer and contractor.

Walton owns and operates Walton Stove Sales, Cloverdale. He and his wife Micalene reside in Cloverdale. They have three children, two sons Waylon Walton and wife Jennifer and Mitchell Walton; one daughter Regina Chestnut and husband John; and five grandchildren, Isabella and Nolan Walton and Cameron, Ryan and Derek Chestnut.

Don is a former County Commissioner and is currently serving on the County Council. Don has been a past president of the Association of County Commissioners and also the Association of Indiana Counties. He is currently serving on the Operation Life Board of Directors, West Central Indiana Economic Development District Board of Directors, Vice President of Association of Indiana Counties, West Central District.

He is a member of the Greencastle Chamber of Commerce and the Cloverdale Church of Christ.

Having served as County Commissioner in the past for 28 years. Don says he feels like he knows the ups and downs and responsibilities of a County Commissioner.

"If elected, I will continue to work with our state legislature in trying to get more monies for our roads and bridges. I will also watch our spending, budgets and property taxes in trying to keep them under control," he stated.

Walton has a strong interest in agriculture and family farms. He has a continued interest in well-planned economic development in the county, cities and towns. He says he will continue working with senior citizens in Putnam County with programs and grants.

Walton says he feels as though, "the youth are the future," and therefore will work very strongly with youth programs in the county, schools and 4-H.

"My experience, past performance, loyalty and service to the community will be exemplified if elected to the office of County Commissioner, I would appreciate your support in the May primary election," he concluded.
