DePauw softball wins first two Florida games

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fifth-ranked DePauw softball improved to 15-1 and extended its win streak to 15 with a pair of shutout wins in their opening games at the Gene Cusic Classic.

The Tigers defeated Union (N.Y.) by a 3-0 score behind the three-hit, nine strikeout pitching of Megan Soultz and then shut out Otterbein, 5-0, as Soultz and Kristin Barrow combined for a no-hitter.

In the first game, Ashlee Anton drove in two with a first-inning single and another with a base hit in the third. Chelsy Patterson collected three hits and Anton finished with two.

Soultz pitched the first four innings against Otterbein and struck out four in improving to 15-1, while Barrow also struck out four over the final three frames in wrapping up the shutout with a save.

The Tigers scored two each in the second and third and one in the fourth as Patterson and Carolyn Bartlett each had two hits.

DePauw takes on Fredonia State on Tuesday at 1 p.m. and Wisconsin-Whitewater at 3 p.m.
