DPU softball sets new school record with win
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Third-ranked DePauw softball team established a new school record for consecutive wins in a season as it picked up its 20th straight after defeating St. Olaf and Wisconsin-Whitewater at the Gene Cusic Classic.
The Tigers defeated St. Olaf by a 9-0 score and Wisconsin-Whitewater, 6-3. The shutout over St. Olaf marked the Tigers' 10th straight shutout of the season and 13th overall.
In the St. Olaf win, DePauw scored four in the first and fourth innings and one in the second in the game shortened to five innings due to the eight-run rule.
Rachel Gill led the Tigers with a 3-for-3 performance with two runs and three RBI as DePauw collected eight hits. Megan Soultz started and pitched two innings of hitless ball before Kristin Barrow pitched the final three and allowed two hits in improving to 2-0.
DePauw scored two runs each in the first, fourth and fifth innings against Wisconsin-Whitewater, while the Warhawks scored twice in the second and once in the sixth. The run in the second snapped DePauw's streak of 62 and two-third consecutive innings of scoreless defense.
The Tigers wrap up the week with an 11 a.m. contest today against MIT.
