BAINBRIDGE -- Two quick home runs gave Greencastle an early lead Monday at North Putnam, but the Cougars took control late in the evening, to defeat the Tiger Cubs 6-2 in the rain.

Logan Grzesiek and Kyle Nobles hit back-to-back homers in the top of the first inning to put GHS up 2-0.

North Putnam starter Griffen Dahlstrom battled back, though, allowing only those two hits in his five innings of work. He picked up 10 strikeouts on the evening.

Tiger Cub starter Kyle Nobles picked up 13 strikeouts of his own in six innings of work.

Although the Cougars left 12 runners on base, Coach Norm Fish said they finally put some hits together in the sixth, building the 6-2 lead in the process.

Jordan Berry relieved Dahlstrom, pitching two perfect innings and striking out three to pick up the win.

For the Cougar offense, J.T. Francies was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Kyle Rooker was 2-for-4 with a double. Berry was 1-for-3 with a double and a run. David Church was 1-for-3.

The two squads face off again at 5 p.m. tonight at Greencastle.
