Softball remains tied in ninth inning

BAINBRIDGE -- Monday's season-opening softball game between Greencastle and North Putnam could not be contained by seven innings or a single day. With the rainfall growing harder and the field muddier, the end of the game has been delayed until 5 p.m. today at Greencastle.

The county rivals were locked in a 3-3 tie with one out in the top of the ninth inning when the delay came.

The game's two freshman starting pitchers kept it a scoreless tie for much of the evening.

North Putnam's Taylor Judy struck out 10 while allowing five hits and three runs through eight and one-third inning of work. She was still in the game at the time of the delay.

Greencastle's Mallory Miller pitched four innings, striking out six while allowing two runs on four hits.

North's Elsiana Crosby and Ashley Currey each picked up an RBI in the fourth inning to put the Cougars up 2-0.

However, GHS came back in the top of the fifth with one RBI from Jessica Miller and a two-RBI hit from Samantha Sillery.

North tied it back up when Carlye McGaughey scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth.

When play resumes today at Greencastle, Jessica Miller will be facing a 3-2 count with runners on second and third with one out in the ninth.

This evening's scheduled game between North Putnam and Greencastle will take place following the conclusion of the first game.
