Vandals blamed for park damage

Tuesday, April 1, 2008
Vandals are believed to have driven through a fence and shot the front sign at the Putnam Park Road Course in Mt. Meridian recently, according to officials there. This comes after another report of vandalism in the past six months where someone apparently used baseball bats or hammers to damage the property in addition to defacing a sign. The Putnam County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crimes. Anyone with information is asked to contact them at 653-5115 or 653-3211.

  • Seems to me they have too much time on their hands..... A lot of people could use some help. Why not do something productive instead of destructive.

  • Trapper, have you ever been to this place and witnessed any of the activities? I usually go six or seven times a year and have for many years and have found the people that come here to race to be very nice and polite. Not only that, but they bring business to local companies, which is a good thing. The people that did this are idiots, and they should have to fix it!

Every time I go the people there are very nice and polite. They also bring business to some local companies, which is a good thing. I've never met any "yuppies" down there, but I figure if they can handle a race bike or a $70,000 race car on the track all day and not wreck, then they can probably get there truck and enclosed trailer home without too much trouble.

  • Wow trapper, a business doesn't deserve to be vandalized just because a patron pulls expensive cars on our county roads.

Maybe if Putnam Park held a NASCAR event or a tractor pull, you would hold a different opinion? I suggest a higher SPF sunblock on that neck area.

  • When caught, lay the cane to them.

  • sonicfilter has made an excellent point. trapper's tone in his comment suggests that he is fed up with the racepark. This race track establishment probably pays more to the county in taxes than some of us make in a years time. Maybe the Banner should contact the phone numbers listed and surrender the info of trapper's register and see if trapper has anymore insight to this cowardly act.

  • Vandals stupid enough to do something like this are stupid enough to brag about it. Parents, ask your kids to ask around at school and see if anyone is talking about this act. This crap is offensive and we should all help to put a stop to it!!

  • That was a good one trapper. The people at Putnam Park are probably having a real good laugh right now.

  • It seems as though there are just some people who like to destroy other people's property. I wonder how they would like it if someone came to THEIR property and destroyed THEIR stuff. What a shame. More than likely it was kids; perhaps more parents should find out where their kids are going when they leave the house and establish curfew times and not let the kids run around all hours of the night. Parents need to be more responsible.
