DPU baseball falls

TERRE HAUTE -- The 27th-ranked Tiger baseball team dropped to 20-6 following a 3-2 loss at Rose-Hulman Wednesday. Rose improved to 15-7.

DePauw jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Ben Gardner drew a one-out walk and scored on Matt Kleine's double. Kleine then stole third and scored on a throwing error on the play.

The Engineers cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning as Keenan Long walked and scored on Tim Tepe's double. Rose-Hulman knotted the score in the second as Nathaniel Miles' ground out scored Gabe Focke.

In the eighth, the Engineers scored the eventual game winner as Michael Kovacs led off with a double, moved to third on Daniel Prochno's sacrifice bunt and scored on Reed Eason's pinch hit single.

Five different Tigers collected one hit each, while Tepe had two of the Engineers' eight hits.

Ben Stenger improved to 1-0 with the relief win as the Engineers used nine pitchers, while Sam Deters collected his fifth save. John Tschantz took the loss in relief and dropped to 5-2.

DePauw hosts Sewanee on Friday at 4 p.m. in a single game which starts a four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series.
