Hester Hess

Hester Freeman Hess, 99, Evansville formerly of Greencastle passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008. She was born August 27, 1908 in Owen County, Ind. near Cataract Falls.

She was a former member of Cataract Methodist Church and attended Crossroads Christian Church in Newburgh. Hester and her husband, Charles, owned Hess Sales and Service of Greencastle, Indiana from 1932-1961. In 1956 they began building the Hess Mobile Home Park and operated it until 1968.

Hester enjoyed her flowers, her garden, cooking and her family. She also enjoyed spending time at the farm where she grew up.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charles Louis Hess; parents, John and Lessie Freeman; brothers, Verla Keller, Frank, Dennis and Claude Freeman; sisters, Nella Allen, Della Black, Hazel Higgins, Minnie Denney, and her twin sister, Esther Jordan; and grandson-in-law Jerry Voege.

Hester is survived by her daughters, Patricia Ann Haltom and husband, Argil and Janet Elaine Essex and husband, Edward; grandchildren, Mark Haltom, Marcia Haltom Voege, Eric Essex and Stacey Essex Kelley; great grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew Haltom, Kim Jeremy and Cory Voege, Brittney and Sean Kelley, Kim Orth Balder and Jason Orth; five great-great grandchildren; and 27 nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, 602 E. Washington Street, Greencastle, with burial in Forest hill Cemetery in Greencastle. Friends may visit Sunday from noon until service time at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home.
