Hennette captures title

BRAZIL -- The Greencastle girls' tennis team competed at the Northview tournament on Saturday. Senior Kelsey Hennette finished in first place for GHS at No. 1 singles.

Hennette defeated Krish Bonebrake of North Montgomery in the finals 6-3 and 6-3 to get the title.

"(It was) super-great for Kelsey. She had a great day and deserved the championship," GHS head coach Trish Lowe said.

After losing her first match, Aubrey Merrell came back and finished third after defeating Abby Burris 6-3, 4-6 and 6-1 in No. 2 singles. Kate Babbington finished fourth after losing to Allie Rentschler at No. 3 singles 6-1 and 6-1.

The No. 1 doubles team of Savannah Provine and Carol LaFoe placed third after defeating the team of Yuodzukines and Sparks of Linton 6-2 and 6-2. At No 2 doubles, Emma Kaiser and Kristen Flint defeated the team of Well and Hensley from Linton 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) to advance to the finals was Northview's Pond and Kumpf 6-0 and 6-4 defeated them.

Lowe singled out the performances of Merrell and Babbington.

"I think it was a great day for them personally to develop some varsity experience and they did a nice job," Lowe said.

Greencastle will travel to Southmont at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
