Greencastle softball takes care of Monrovia, 6-0

Thursday, May 1, 2008

The Greencastle softball team took care of business Monday night against Monrovia, shutting out the Bulldogs, 6-0.

"It was a great game. This si the first shutout we've had in a long time," GHS coach Dave Keller said.

The coach said his defense played especially well, as they allowed no runs, while pitcher Briana Baker struck out just two batters.

On the evening, Baker allowed just three hits and a walk in her complete game victory.

Keller was also proud of the Tiger Cub offense, as they scored all of their runs with two outs.

"To me, that's some clutch hitting," Keller said. "Two-out runs are gifts. Those are just killers to other teams. It just takes them down a little bit."

Sam Rising and Cassie Alspaugh each picked up two hits for GHS, with Rising picking up a double. Samantha Sillery also had a double.

Sitting at 10-5 and 6-2 in the WCC, Keller is proud of how far his team has come this year.

"They've really come together as a team," he said.

The Tiger Cubs now have a couple of tough non-conference opponents coming up in Riverton Parke and Southwestern.

"We're going to go out and see how we stack up against these teams," Keller said.

The Tiger Cubs host Riverton Parke at 5 p.m. Friday.
